For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given.
Isaiah 9:6
Each morning when I sit with my coffee, I spend time with God. I read, journal and listen to an inspirational song. As of late, the song has been “Pie Jesu” (merciful Jesus) by Charlotte Church. It is sung so beautifully and reminds me throughout the day to call on the Mercy of Jesus, because the song plays over and over in my head.
Sometimes I let iTunes create a playlist it thinks I will like. This morning after Charlotte Church, iTunes pulled up “Sing” by the Carpenters. I looked at it and was immediately tempted to change it (if you are not familiar, please google it). I let the song play. I remembered singing it in the sixth grade choir. It is a happy and delightful song, quite a different genre from Charlotte Church but meaningful, nonetheless.
I listened closely to the song and heard a line I had never paid attention to before. “Sing of love there could be, sing for you and for me.” I never remembered the line “Sing of love there could be,” and it caused me to replay the song multiple times.
I wondered if the angels themselves sung something like this when God pronounced He would come to earth as a child. I wondered if angels knew of the One who would come and teach us about all the love there could be.
As days grow shorter and the lights of Christmas begin to glow in our homes, I hope we are reminded of all the love there could be.
Christmas is a holy time, a time when we are reminded of the day heaven touched the earth, when God chose to dwell among us through the birth of Jesus Christ.
The season calls for celebration, gratitude, wonder and renewed faith, and of course singing. So, sing, sing a song!
Merry Christmas!
