Christmas Eve Service - 4 pm

Come as a stranger, leave as a friend

June already!? I guess that means the first five months of 2023 are…history! Harharhar. Hey, if you can’t make yourself laugh…

Aaaanyhow, let’s talk about some awesome history! Beginning in June, I will be posting weekly photos and talking about little pieces of history on the Playful Church (Marlborough Congregational) Facebook page. Look for those every Friday if you’re online. There’ll be little blurbs here and there with some images while a larger compilation is being created. Further, I am currently working on a more comprehensive booklet which will be ready for printing toward the end of Summer 2023. It’ll have pictures, stories, and of course our history included in it.

In addition, stay tuned for more announcements coming up about some new additions to the church buildings in terms of…well, I’ll announce some of those things during services, so if you aren’t there in person, make sure you check in online for those announcements and photos!

Ok, housekeeping out of the way. Let’s talk about history! We’re hitting important milestones all the time at Marlborough Congregational. For a historian, that’s the best part, really. Since we’ve got so many years of it going on, there’s something to celebrate all the time in terms of our own story.

By the right-hand door leading from the Narthex into the Sanctuary, you might have noticed a plaque on the wall. It’s not gigantic, but it’s there. Check it out sometime! If you have read it, then you know that it is the plaque commemorating the date which Marlborough Congregational declared it had become an Open and Affirming church on May 20th, 2012. We’ve just celebrated our 11th year as an Open and Affirming church! The plaque reads the following:

Marlborough Congregational Church

Open and Affirming

Adopted May 20,, 2012

We, the members of the

Congregational Church of Marlborough,

United Church of Christ, hereby declare

ourselves an Open and Affirming Christian

community, actively expressing Jesus’

inclusive embrace of all people.

We affirm the full participation in all

sacraments, rites and practices of the

United Church of Christ for all people.

No matter who you are, no matter who you love, and no matter where you are on life’s journey, you are welcome at Marlborough Congregational Church.
